Hiring a new employee is an involved process. There are a lot of factors that go into a hiring decision and an even larger amount of knowledge that potential applicants bring to the table. However, there’s one question that you’re bound to hear in any interview “Why should we hire you?”
This question isn’t about you, it’s about me. As an interviewer, I often come across candidates who easily answer questions about the company and role, but when I ask why I should hire them, many struggles to come up with a strong answer. Essentially, this question is a great way to dig into what your candidate’s core values are, what motivates them and how they convey their passion.

Some examples to answer “ why should we hire you”
1 Here’s my case for why you should hire me. I’m a self-starter with a knack for organisation, and I’m looking to take my ability and organisational skills to the next step. One way I’ve shown my ability to succeed is by organising events in the past. I’ve never been personally involved with an event that didn’t run smoothly — and they’ve been some large events! If you want an organised co-worker who always gets things done on time, hire me!
2 Hey, I’m Jared and I’m applying for the event coordinator position. If you’re anything like me, when you read the job description, you wondered why should we hire you. I see this question most commonly with job descriptions of people looking to fill roles in the kitchen. Usually, most people struggle to find candidates who are familiar with dense operations such as yours but my experiences at my previous workplace will ensure your closing times run smoothly.
3 why should we hire you answer? Well, I’m passionate about providing care to those in need in my community. I am available for any special events in your life (special occasions, meetings and even funerals). You won’t have to ever worry about me bailing on you because I’m reliable. Hope that helps!
4 Hi, I am [yourname], and I am so excited about your job posting for [position]. I have been looking for this kind of role for quite some time, and I think that your hospital’s goals are truly ambitious (not to mention super exciting!). If you haven’t noticed from my cover letter, I am a fast typer, and actually have several years of experience working at the local hospital—basically, if you want to implement new processes and improve wait time like you say your goal is, I can help! And, if you haven’t noticed from my resume, between 2009 and 2010, I improved wait time by 17%, so this is definitely something that I am capable of doing.
5 My name is John Doe and you should hire me because I’m ready to work on your team. You see, I’ve been looking for a position such as this for quite some time since I want to use the skills that I have to help your company grow. After working for many years in my previous position and taking on several different roles, I know what it takes to succeed in the industry. In fact, just a couple of years back I helped my hospital bring down their wait times by 17%—and from what you said in your ad, that is something you need help with.
6 I am a recent graduate of the l School of General Studies here at [school name] where I studied human development. While my coursework has been fundamental in creating me as an outgoing and personable candidate, it also has been directly relevant to the position you are presently looking to fill. Through the volunteering work I have done, I developed soft skills, such as good writing and computer skills along with an ability to make decisions. I also learned how to interact with people and show leadership in difficult situations.
It’s never too late to secure a position you want, especially if you are the most qualified. However, winning over the interviewer is not so easy. You should be ready to make the best impression. And that’s why the meaning of your answer should be professional and relevant to the company. It shows that you were paying attention during the job posting, which is always a plus. Several tips will help you land that job. Like a supplicant, you need to provide a convincing argument that’ll help the interviewer take notice of you and your useful skills in particular.
